AI in schools and digital education: what France's 2027 presidential candidates propose

Background
The law aimed at protecting minors from the risks to which the use of social networks exposes them extended to high schools the ban on using cell phones and connected devices, already in force in primary and middle schools (article L. 511-5 of the education code). The "Portable en pause" scheme, rolled out to all middle schools in 2025-2026, begins in high schools at the start of the 2026 school year.
On AI, the ministry published in 2025 a framework for the use of AI in education. Its 2026-2027 roadmap provides for the generalization of Pix IA for students, pilot classes for an AI tutor, a sovereign AI assistant for 100,000 administrative staff and a training plan for more than one million public employees, backed by a national network of trainers (the Lab IA) open since March 2026.
