Algorithmic video surveillance (VSA) adds automated image analysis processing to cameras. The law of May 19, 2023 on the Olympic Games authorized it on an experimental basis: the processing systems detect predetermined events in real time, which are flagged to officers, and cannot involve biometric data, in particular facial recognition.
A law relating to the 2030 Olympic Games extended the experiment until December 31, 2027. Law no. 2026-798 of August 18, 2026, known as the Ripost law, extends it until December 31, 2030 and broadens it to certain buildings and places open to the public. The Conseil constitutionnel declared this law partially compliant (decision no. 2026-915 DC of August 14, 2026), without striking down this extension.
